WORKSHOP AT WAYFARE HQ

I recently put on an Intro to Graphic Design Workshop at Wayfare HQ in Costa Mesa. It's a beautiful co-work space, where during the week, people who work from home, coffee shops, or just need a unique space for a meeting, can come and rent space to work for the day. On the weekends, they host workshops that are open to the public. I was first introduced to them by taking a POPPYjack calligraphy workshop, it was so inspiring. It was a room full of people who want to learn a specific skill set. Surrounded by positive attitudes, fresh flowers and the want to try something new.

It was shortly after that workshop that I was asked to host my very own. I was nervous, my husband and I were in the middle of a move, but I could not and would not say no to the opportunity. I created a course syllabus, design icons and flourishes to give out to each student and toolbox that broke down and explained the various tools we would be discussing in class. There was a lot of prep that went into the day, but it was everything I hoped for and more. It allowed me to stand in front of a group of people, (the same group I had just recently been a part of) and teach them a subject I am so incredibly passionate about. From this experience I learned that when I teach, I feel at home. I feel like I am helping others and sharing information that is going to make their life easier and more fun.

Check out the Instagram hashtag to see what we worked on.

More workshops are definitely to come in the future! If you are interested in learning anything specific in one of my next workshops, comment below and we'll see what we can do.

WELCOME

Welcome to Eva Enger Design!

The website is officially up. The blog is officially up. And here we are, up and running! It has been a longtime dream of mine to start my own business. And, with my recent move up to the Bay Area from Los Angeles, it was my chance to give it a whirl. After working for an amazing candle company, focusing on packaging, I was able to form a strong foundation of design tools to help push me forward and take a leap. My art director gave the designers a lot of freedom with our projects, so we were essentially able to research, come up with an idea, and develop it. It was the best approach because it allowed us to use our imaginations, follow trends and really develop the story we were trying to get across with each and every product. Though, don't get me wrong, of course there were projects along the way that we didn't necessarily want to work on. But those projects allowed me (and I would venture to say all the designers) to struggle, go through the trial and error process, and learn to approach things in a way that would get us out of our comfort zone.

And here I am, out of my comfort zone. Writing a blog post for virtually anyone to read. About my work, that virtually anyone can criticize. It's a vulnerable place on the "intra-nets". With my blog, my hope is to write about current trends in the industry. New designers, new techniques, new websites. All while interlacing my current projects and day to day design work.

If you're interested in following along, please subscribe! I hope you enjoy.
